What is VENO InkFive?

VENO InkFive is a free five-in-a-row strategy game that turns the caro matches you once scribbled on squared notebook paper into a polished 3D board game. A 15×15 sheet of grid paper lies on a warm wooden desk next to a pen, an eraser and a ruler, and every X and O is drawn stroke by stroke in blue or coral ink. It runs entirely in your web browser, so there is nothing to download and no account to create.

How to play

Players take turns placing X and O on empty squares. X moves first, and the starting side alternates on every rematch. Line up five of your marks horizontally, vertically or diagonally before your opponent does. On desktop you hover to see a ghost mark and click to draw it; R starts a rematch, Esc pauses and H shows a hint where hints are allowed. On a phone, pressing the board opens a magnifier bubble that enlarges the cells under your finger, so your mark snaps into exactly the square you want when you lift it.

Rules that keep it sharp

The default Caro ruleset follows the schoolyard version: you need exactly five in a row, a line of six or more does not count, and a five blocked by your opponent at both ends does not win. A five blocked at only one end still wins, and the edge of the board is not treated as a block. If you grew up with different rules, switch to Gomoku, where five or more always wins, or to Freestyle, the simplest version for newcomers.

Modes for every mood

Play the AI on four levels, from Easy and Normal to Hard and Master, or pass one device between two people for a classic face-to-face match. Quick mode gives each side only 10 seconds per move, and Challenge mode serves win-in-N puzzles. The AI plays fair: it takes immediate wins, blocks yours, builds open threes and double threats on higher levels, and never cheats.

Ink that reacts to every move

Each move gets feedback that matches its weight. A four-in-a-row threat pulses, a block sends out a small ring of ink, a double threat lights up two lines at once, and a win slows time for a moment while a marker stroke runs through the five pieces and doodle confetti bursts around them. Wins earn stars, one on Easy up to four on Master, which unlock cosmetic themes such as Midnight Neon, Blueprint Lab and Chalkboard Club. Themes change only the look and sound, never the rules, and nothing is sold for real money.

Phone and desktop, nothing to install

VENO InkFive plays in landscape and portrait on desktop and mobile browsers, and your stars and unlocked themes are saved locally on your device. A typical game lasts two to eight minutes, which makes it perfect for a short break or a best-of series with a friend.
