What is VENO Checkspire?
VENO Checkspire is classic 8×8 chess staged as a premium 3D diorama that runs entirely in your browser. The rules are the real ones — castling, en passant, promotion, check, checkmate and draw rules — but the presentation feels like a chess commercial: stone, wood, metal and glass under soft stage lighting. Pieces have weight, captures land with impact, and checks and checkmates get their own cinematic moment without ever making the board hard to read.
How to play
Click or tap one of your pieces and it lifts slightly while every legal destination lights up with a glowing ring; capture squares get a different outline so you never miss a take. Tap the target square (or drag the piece) to move. The last move stays softly highlighted, a checked king pulses, and a Flip Board button turns the view around. Mouse, touch, keyboard and gamepad are all supported.
AI rivals with a personality
Difficulty and style are separate. Pick one of five levels from Novice to Master, then choose who you face: the Scholar develops fast and castles early, the Raider hunts for captures and checks, the Sentinel guards its king and pawn structure, the Gambiteer happily gives up material for the initiative, and the Endgamer simplifies once ahead and pushes passed pawns. The AI runs in a background worker and takes a human-like moment before it moves.
Modes for every kind of session
Classic is you against the AI with White, Black or random colour. Local Duel puts two players on one device, with an optional auto-flip. Quick Match uses 10+0 or 5+3 clocks, Blitz plays at 3+2, and Gauntlet is a ladder of six AI opponents that ends with the Master of the Spire, each one awarding a badge. Tactics serves puzzles such as mate in 1 or 2, forks, pins and discovered attacks, while Mate Rush gives you 60 or 120 seconds to solve as many mates as you can.
Themes, replays and clips
Three 3D themes come with the game: Obsidian Hall from the start, Royal Walnut after ten wins and Neon Glass after a five-game streak. Every game can be replayed move by move, imported or exported as PGN or FEN, and watched again with a cinematic camera. The built-in Studio cuts 15, 30, 60 or 90-second clips in 16:9 or 9:16 and exports MP4 right in the browser when your device supports it — the video on this page replays the famous 1858 Paris Opera Game, ending with 17. Phone and desktop, nothing to install
Landscape and portrait each get their own layout instead of a crop, so the board fills the width of a phone screen with player cards and clocks above and below. Progress is saved on your device, no account is needed, and after the first load Checkspire keeps working offline as a web app.
